Founder of Behdash

Daud Abedi Ameli was born in 1316 in the city of Amel. After completing his high school education in mathematics, in 1337 he successfully passed the entrance exam of Polytechnic University (currently Amir Kabir Industrial) in the field of chemical and petrochemical engineering, and in 1342 he obtained a master’s degree in the field The aforementioned graduated. He recognized work in his childhood at the same time as himself. From a very young age, they had a business in front of their father’s shop, selling small items bought from their father’s shop or the market, and thus they tasted the taste of self-sufficiency and independence from the age of 4-5.

Because of their father, they had reached intellectual and social maturity much earlier than children of the same age because their father was always listening to the radio and the news and discussing various issues. At the same time, his interest in reading was also manifested and he studied and read every kind of book that he could get his hands on. Fortunately, there was a bookstore opposite their father’s shop and they freely used his books, so that they had read most of the books in that shop at a young age. Due to these issues, when they entered school, they had a far greater understanding of work, life, and social issues than students of the same age.
At a time when people were struggling with poverty and hunger, continuing education was not a common issue and young people had to work and help support the family. Mr. Abedi also found himself in these two ways, he could work and take the burden off his family or go to university, but here also the father’s favor covers his situation and he becomes his supporter and encourager to continue his education and so on. They participated in the entrance exam and were accepted in 3 fields of mathematics, physics and petrochemical.
During university studies, he worked in several factories, including glass factory, soap making plants and Segol vegetable oil, sugar factory, oleochemical plant of Tehran water treatment plant, detergent plants and Qom oil wells (drilling mud production) courses. Completed an internship. They were always looking for knowledge and used every opportunity to add to their experiences, which later became the foundation of their increasing success. After studying, he was employed by Pazargad Petrochemical Company and after 2 years, he was employed by Tudjaro Company, and after the establishment of Toli Press, he was one of the activists of that company. Finally, in 1360, they launched Mahdtaj Group, and with all the hardships, their first products went to the market in 1368.

Behdash company’s unique capabilities:

Behdash Chemical Company, as the first and only manufacturer of FCC/RFCC catalysts in Iran, with the current annual production capacity of 10,000 tons, has the ability to produce various types of catalysts according to the needs of refineries. The production of this type of catalysts, which is very complicated from the point of view of the variety of raw materials and the manufacturing process, relies on the technical knowledge and several decades of experience in the production of various chemicals by this company, some of which are briefly mentioned:

  • The first and largest producer of A4 zeolite with a capacity of 40,000 tons per year in Iran
  • Production of type A zeolites, including A3, A4, A5, and production of type X zeolites, including X13, as basic materials for molecular reservoirs
  • Production of 12,000 tons per year of various grades of zeolite Y, such as RE, USY, HY, PRSY, REUSY, MOY, CREY and…
  • The largest production unit of all kinds of liquid and solid sodium silicate grades with a capacity of 120,000 tons per year using two furnace and autoclave methods in different ratios and purities. This unit exports a significant part of its products to countries in the region. It should be noted that this substance is one of the most important precursors for the production of zeolites Y, A, X and FCC/RFCC catalysts.
  • producer of sodium aluminate in various concentrations (from catalyst and molecular sieve raw materials)
  • Manufacturer of liquid alum with a capacity of 12,000 tons per year (from catalyst raw materials)
  • The first and largest producer of aluminochlorhydrol with a capacity of 6,000 tons per year (catalyst binder)
  • Currently designing and building the ZSM-5 zeolite synthesis industrial unit in Iran (in cooperation with Petrochemical Research and Technology Company for the first time in Iran) with a capacity of 1,200 tons per year
  • It has a unit for forming molecular aggregates used in oil, gas and petrochemical industries with a capacity of 10,000 tons per year, which can produce molecular aggregates with spherical and cylindrical shapes of different dimensions.

FCC/RFCC Refinery Catalyst Production Project: Future Horizon in Oil and Gas and Petrochemical Industries

After the successful launch and operation of the A4 zeolite production plant and considering the actual potential of Behdash company in providing the raw materials needed for the preparation of industrial zeolites, which include types of sodium silicate and sodium aluminate, it seemed that for the future development of the activity companies and also paying attention to the needs of the country in various industries, the production of other types of zeolites was put on the agenda of Behdash Group. The investigations carried out indicated that in the oil and gas industries and especially in the refining sector, FCC/RFCC catalysts with an annual consumption of more than 10,000 tons per year are the most widely used catalysts in Iran, whose main component is zeolites. They form Y. It goes without saying that FCC/RFCC catalysts are considered the most complex type of commercial catalysts, and the production of Y zeolites also has the most difficult production process and mechanism among all industrial zeolites. In addition, from the production of NaY with a capacity of 6,000 tons per year, 3,000 tons per year can be supplied to the market.

FCC and RFCC catalysts are used in Shazand Arak and Abadan refineries to convert crude oil and their heavier residues into valuable products such as gasoline, diesel, propylene, etc. Unfortunately, these catalysts are 100% imported from abroad during the entire period of Iran’s oil industry. As a result, these catalysts play a very vital and decisive role in Iran’s oil industry. Considering these cases, Behdash Chemical Company decided to produce these catalysts from the first stages of its value chain, i.e. from the Y-type zeolites themselves. Due to the complexity of the production process and the high investment volume to set up the desired factories, in 2014 a tripartite memorandum was concluded between Behdash Chemical Company, National Refining and Broadcasting Company and the Vice President of Technology, according to which Behdash Company It has been recognized as the producer of these catalysts and gave this project a national flavor.

The construction of these factories with an investment volume of more than 8,000 billion Rials started in May 1996 and will be put into operation by the end of this year. These factories include two separate production plants:

  1. Y-type zeolite production plant: NaY zeolite with a capacity of 6,000 tons per year, USU zeolite and ReY zeolite with a capacity of 3,000 tons per year are produced in this plant.
  2. Production plant for FCC and RFCC catalysts: with a total capacity of 10,000 tons per year, which can be increased to 20,000 tons per year.

It should be noted that in the formula of FCC and RFCC catalysts, in addition to zeolite components, non-zeolite components such as processed kaolin, aluminum sol, soda, boehmite and ZSM-5 are also present, which are known as matrix, binder and filler. In addition, other additives such as zeolite ZSM-5 are also used, which play a very important role in the performance of the catalyst. According to the national policy and mission of Behdash Company, which is bound to cut off dependence on foreign countries and produce any chemical substance needed for Iran, Behdash Chemical Company is currently setting up production units for aluminum sul, pseudoboehmite, activated kaolin, zeolite ZSM- 5 and other materials required for the complete localization of all refinery catalysts.
